Jack Samson
Jack Samson, our Saltwater Flyfishing Editor, was formerly Editor-In-Chief of Field & Stream. He is now Saltwater Editor of Flyrod & Reel and Editor-at-Large of Western Outdoors.
Jack is a life-long fly fisherman and the author of 20 books. He specializes in salt water fly fishing. He was co-winner of the First International Fly Fishing Tournament in Costa Rica in 1989, holds a world record for roosterfish on a fly and is the first fly rodder to catch both Pacific and Atlantic sailfish and all five species of marlin on a fly.
His last three books were Saltwater Fly fishing, Billfish on a Fly and a biography of Lee Wulff.
Recently Jack won the International Game Fish Association's annual conservation award for an article on the relationship between the Florida sugar industry and the destruction of the Everglades. The article was in the March 1995 issue of Fly Rod & Reel. His other contributions to fishing conservation include the Chairmanship of the Sportfishing Council of Game Conservation International.
Jack also wrote the first book on fly fishing for permit -- published by Stackpole Books. We expect to hear more from him every now and again.
