FISH & DIVE THE CARIBBEAN
- VOL1
by Larry Larsen
Fish & Dive the Caribbean-Vol.1, a candid
fishing and diving guide to the Caribbean, is written by Larry Larsen and M. Timothy O'Keefe, who have 50 years of combined experience
exploring the region both above and below the waterline. The book
covers the most visited islands such as the Bahamas, Puerto Rico,
Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, and also other sites such as
Turks & Caicos, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Cozumel
and Cancun. Bermuda, actually well out in the Atlantic but
perceived as part of the Caribbean by some travelers, is also
included.
Written in the lively, casual style that
has won both authors numerous awards, the 192-page guide
details how sportsmen should plan and pack for a trip to
ensure their Caribbean vacation is everything they hope
it will be. Guides, weather patterns, hotel facilities
and even restaurants are discussed, the bad along with
the good. "Too many guidebooks paint an idealized
picture of what island travel is like," explains
co-author O'Keefe. "We've tried to give an honest
appraisal of the service and treatment you can expect.
It's a fair but candid assessment."
Larsen and
O'Keefe have discovered that divers and anglers are more
alike than different. Environmentally-conscious divers
and hard-core fishermen should have no problem with this
blending. Neither trolling offshore for big game or
poling over barren sand flats disturbs the reef life
divers travel so far to see. Furthermore, divers and
anglers are the ones who are most likely to band together
to conserve the marine resources in the islands. A
detailed index and a list of tourism offices to contact
for further information is included.
